Danas je prva nedjelja došašća ili adventa

Katolici danas obilježavaju početak došašća ili adventa. To je vrijeme priprave do Rođenja Gospodinova – Božića.
Došašće ili advent počinje četiri nedjelje prije Božića. Najranije može početi 27. studenoga, a najkasnije 3. prosinca. Došašće završava 24. prosinca na Badnjak. Početak došašća određuje blagdan sv. Andrije Apostola. Prvi dio traje do 16. prosinca.

Preparing Your Home for Winter: Creating Warmth, Efficiency, and Comfort
As the days grow shorter and the crisp edge of autumn begins to fade, the first chill of winter is never far behind. Preparing your home for the cold season is not simply about turning on the heat, it’s about creating an environment of warmth, efficiency, and calm that allows you to enjoy the quiet beauty of winter rather than endure it. A well-prepared home becomes a sanctuary against the elements, one where every room feels intentional, balanced, and ready for the months ahead.
Start With the Heart of Your Home
Your heating system is the true heart of your home during winter, quietly working behind the scenes to keep every corner comfortable. Before the cold fully sets in, it’s essential to give it the attention it deserves. Replace or clean air filters, check that vents are open and unblocked, and listen for any unusual noises that could hint at wear or imbalance. These small steps not only ensure consistent warmth but also protect your system from strain and costly breakdowns when you need it most.
If your furnace hasn’t been serviced recently, this is the time to schedule an inspection. A professional technician can clean internal components, check for leaks, and verify that everything is running at peak efficiency. This preventative care helps extend the life of your system, lowers energy bills, and keeps your indoor air cleaner, all of which make a tangible difference once those frosty nights arrive.
Seal, Insulate, and Protect
When it comes to home comfort, what you keep out can be just as important as what you let in. Drafts and small air leaks are silent thieves of warmth, allowing precious heat to escape and cold air to creep inside. Taking time to seal gaps around windows, doors, and vents can dramatically improve comfort while reducing wasted energy. Even simple measures like adding fresh weather-stripping or a door sweep can make your rooms feel instantly cozier.
Proper insulation is equally vital. Attics, basements, and crawl spaces are often overlooked, yet they play a major role in maintaining consistent indoor temperatures. Adding or updating insulation helps your home retain warmth during winter and stay cooler in summer, an investment that pays off all year long. Think of insulation as your home’s winter coat: the thicker and better fitted it is, the more effectively it protects you from the chill.
Optimize Your Airflow
Consistent airflow is what transforms a functioning heating system into an efficient one. Over time, ducts can accumulate dust or develop tiny leaks that reduce performance and distribute air unevenly throughout the home. Making sure your ductwork is clean, sealed, and properly balanced helps every room feel equally comfortable, no more cold spots in the corners or overheated spaces near the vents.
If you notice uneven heating or weak airflow, it may be time to have your system inspected by a local expert in HVAC repair Sacramento. A professional evaluation can identify issues early, restore balance to your system, and ensure your equipment runs at peak performance during the coldest months.
This is also a perfect opportunity to check your thermostat settings. Upgrading to a programmable or smart thermostat allows you to fine-tune your comfort while saving energy. You can schedule lower temperatures during work hours or while you sleep, then warm things up automatically before you wake or return home. Modern systems even learn your habits, ensuring the perfect balance between convenience and efficiency.
Don’t Forget the Details
Preparing your home for winter isn’t limited to big maintenance tasks, it’s also about adding small, thoughtful touches that elevate comfort and atmosphere. Reverse the direction of ceiling fans to gently push warm air downward and maintain a consistent temperature. Add thick area rugs to help insulate hardwood or tile floors and keep toes warm on chilly mornings. Replace light, airy curtains with heavier fabrics that retain heat while adding a sense of seasonal elegance.
Winter also offers a chance to refresh your home’s mood. Cozy textures like wool, flannel, and velvet invite relaxation, while candles or warm-toned lighting can make long evenings feel intimate and serene. A well-prepared home doesn’t just stay warm, it feels warm, wrapping you in comfort with every small, intentional detail.
Check Your Safety Essentials
As comfort increases, safety must never be overlooked. The winter months often bring increased reliance on heating systems, fireplaces, and space heaters, all of which require care and attention. Check smoke detectors and carbon monoxide alarms to ensure they’re fully functional, and replace batteries if needed. If you have a fireplace, schedule a chimney cleaning to prevent buildup and improve air quality.
Space heaters can be a wonderful way to warm small areas, but they should always be used responsibly. Keep them clear of fabrics and furniture, avoid running them overnight, and choose models with automatic shutoff features. A few safety checks now can spare you serious risks later, giving you true peace of mind while you enjoy your cozy surroundings.
Prepare for the Unexpected
Even the best-laid plans can’t control the weather, so it pays to be ready for surprises. Winter storms can bring power outages, icy roads, and temporary disruptions. Having a small emergency kit on hand, complete with flashlights, spare batteries, blankets, bottled water, and basic supplies can make those moments far less stressful. If you live in an area prone to blackouts, consider investing in a portable generator or backup heating source.
Taking these steps before the first frost ensures that when winter arrives in full force, your home stands resilient. Preparation transforms uncertainty into confidence, allowing you to face cold nights with ease and assurance.
Embrace the Season
Ultimately, preparing for winter isn’t just about protecting your home, it’s about embracing the season itself. With the right preparation, your space becomes a haven where you can slow down, recharge, and enjoy life’s quieter moments. Whether you’re watching rain fall outside your window, gathering with loved ones for warm meals, or simply curling up with a good book, a well-cared-for home enhances every experience.
Winter, after all, invites us inward, not just physically, but emotionally. It’s a time to reconnect with comfort, reflection, and gratitude. With a little effort and planning, you can ensure your home is more than ready to welcome it.

Slijede Innsbruck (432) i Graz (467).
Unatoč ovom pozitivnom trendu, problemi s prometom i parkiranjem i dalje postoje, posebice u blizini popularnih izletišta poput Lainzer Tiergartena i Schönbrunna.
