Croatia has the cleanest sea for swimming, confirmed by the latest official analysis and report from the European Commission and the European Environment Agency.
The analysis, based on last year’s data, showed that 99.1 percent of Croatia’s coastal areas (specifically 886 out of 894 tested) received an excellent rating regarding seawater quality. The survey included 27 European Union member states, Switzerland, and Albania. Croatia ranked first, followed by Greece, Cyprus, and Austria (with lake cleanliness considered).
The American magazine Travel + Leisure also wrote about the sea in Croatia. They mention how the small country, located along the Adriatic Sea, amazed the world with its impressive results.
“If swimming or sailing in the incredibly clean sea in Croatia sounds like your summer dream, you might want to head there as soon as possible. Although it is still somewhat less popular as a European summer destination compared to Greece and Italy, for example, Croatia is one of the best countries in Europe for beach lovers. Nearly 50 million people gather on its shores each year,” the article states.
“Croatia has more than 2,736 kilometers of mainland coastline, with an additional 4,000 miles of island and islet coasts in the Adriatic Sea. The Adriatic Sea, which is about 193 kilometers wide, separates Italy from the Balkans and is known for its cleanliness,” they add.
